Agric Opportunities Highlighted by Farmerline at Standard Bank’s ‘Africa Unlocked’ Conference
Marvin Adom Armah, the Senior Account Manager with the Farmerline Group, has cited huge potential in Africa to tap into agriculture for sustainable economic growth.
Speaking at the inaugural Standard Bank Business and Commercial Banking Conference themed ‘Africa Unlocked,’ in South Africa, Mr. Armah said, “Challenges must be looked at from a different perspective and as an opportunity.”.
He explained how Farmerline had identified growth opportunities in the agriculture sector and was helping farmers leverage technology to increase productivity. “Africa is on the brink of unlocking its potential, particularly in agriculture.”.
COVID-19 taught us a very good lesson: tech in agriculture needs to be protected, and more importantly, shared with farmers. Not having the technology, but accessibility. He added, “At Farmerline, our core functionality is backed by technology.”.
Mr. Armah further explained the various interventions being done by Farmerline across Africa to help farmers transform and scale their operations. He singled out Mergdata as a cutting-edge solution by Farmerline for farmers and other critical stakeholders.
He declared, “Farmerline has always sought to drive meaningful profits for farmers worldwide and on the African continent. This vision, according to him, has to be underpinned by the knowledge of problems farmers encounter, including lack of quality inputs, assets, and timely information. And upon that experience, he said, Farmerline has come up with Mergdata—a proprietary web and mobile-based application that allows the traceability of farm produce along the value chain, right from the farm to the consumer.”.
“In the last 11 years working with smallholder farmers, we have learned that clear communication is very important. This started with information on smart agronomic practices, climate change, and resilience,” he added.
Standard Bank’s Business and Commercial Banking Conference, themed “Africa Unlocked”, was held from July 10-12, 2024, on the theme “Africa’s Competitive Advantage: Finding Growth Opportunities.” It tackled critical issues germane to the advancement of the continent, with insights from a cast of highly distinguished experts and dignitaries across the continent. Farmerline Group was among the clients sponsored by Stanbic Bank Ghana to attend.
