University of Gold Coast Marks New Era with Presentation of Inaugural Post-Charter Degree
The University of Gold Coast (UGC) has marked a historic milestone with the presentation of its first post-charter certificate, following the granting of the university’s Presidential Charter in 2024.
The landmark presentation took place during the university’s 2026 graduation ceremony, making the graduating class the first cohort to receive certificates issued in the name and under the independent authority of the Chartered University of Gold Coast.
The first post-charter certificate was presented by the Chancellor of the University of Gold Coast, Bishop Gideon Titi Ofei, to Isaac Mensah, who received it on behalf of the graduating class.
The presentation symbolised the beginning of a new chapter in the university’s history and its commitment to producing graduates whose knowledge, character and leadership can make a meaningful contribution to Ghana, Africa and the world.
Describing the significance of the certificate, Bishop Gideon Titi Ofei said it represents far more than the completion of an academic programme.
“This certificate is the crown placed upon years of study, sacrifice, discipline and determination. It carries a name, but behind that name is a remarkable story of perseverance, discovery and triumph,” he said.
He explained that the certificate has been designed to combine the dignity of academic tradition with modern technology and credibility.
“Its distinguished crest, refined gold detailing, unique identity and encrypted verification code proclaim that the qualification it represents is genuine, traceable and worthy of trust,” Bishop Offei stated.
According to him, the certificate is intended to serve as a lasting representation of the graduate’s achievement and the university’s standards.
“It is not merely presented to a graduate; it introduces that graduate to the world. It speaks when its holder is absent, confirms achievement when evidence is required and preserves the honour of the university wherever it travels,” he said.
Bishop Ofei further described the new University of Gold Coast certificate as a symbol of excellence and authenticity.
“The University of Gold Coast certificate is more than proof of graduation. It is the signature of excellence, the seal of authenticity and the lifelong monument of achievement,” he said.
The ceremony also highlighted the symbolic significance of certificate Serial Number 0001, which, according to the university, has been framed in the Chancellor’s office and bears the name Jesus Christ as a symbolic first certificate.
The presentation of the first post-charter certificate therefore represents a defining moment for the University of Gold Coast, as the institution enters a new era of independent chartered operations and continues its mission of preparing graduates for leadership and impact in Ghana and beyond.
